Thekkady has earned its reputation among tourists as a beautiful place where one can enjoy pristine nature at its best. Boating and trekking in Thekkady are the most popular activities here. But there are some lesser-known activities in Thekkady which every nature enthusiast will love. At Woodnote, we believe in providing our guests with unique experiences that will never leave their memories. A tribal colony visit is one among them.

Tribal food for food vlogger

At Woodnote, we arrange for tribal experiences according to the preferences of our guests. Recently, Mr. Ebbin Jose, a famed food vlogger of Kerala, chose our resort in Thekkady for a pleasant stay. He expressed a desire to watch tribal cooking, and to capture it for his videos.

We took Ebbin to visit the tribal settlement nearby. But as it is inside the forest, the permission of forest authorities is needed for video shoots. So we arranged for some tribal chefs to cook their authentic recipes in a delightful nature-friendly location outside the forest area. Ebbin gave a hats-off to all the arrangements.

Authentic tribal recipes

A tribal group belonging to the Mannan community came all prepared to dish out their trademark recipes. Mannans are one of the tribes that have made their homes in the jungles of Thekkady. They quickly arranged a make-do firewood stove and proceeded to show their skills.

Their menu had a variety of dishes, which included chicken curry in the traditional tribal style, fire-baked fish, finger millets porridge, and some green leaves cooked in two different ways. It was a treat to watch the pots and pans being handled skillfully without any modern cooking instruments. The end result was delicious. Ebbin and others in his group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. What appealed to them more than the taste was the health benefits of the purest ingredients cooked in a natural manner.

Watch Ebbin narrate his experience with tribal cooking in this video.
